Erythrina resupinataRoxb. (Leguminosae:Papilionoideae), a less-known but a potential ornamental from India and Nepal

Abstract

Erythrina resupinata Roxb. has been described with recent collections from India and Nepal. It is a little known species with unique habit within the genus and exhibits sparse distribution. Its IUCN conservation status is provisionally assessed as ‘Endangered’ based on limited field observations and data from herbarium specimens. This species is worth domestication as an ornamental for its attractive bright scarlet flowers arising from perennial rootstock.
